On December 7th, Project ReWear celebrated the grand opening of its Thousand Oaks, CA,
boutique. Featuring delicious, fresh pizza from D’Amores, a pup adoption area with rescue dogs from AdoptMeRescue, children’s face painting by Tammy P, and ice cream treats from
Charming Ice Bar, the grand opening began with a speech from Kim, followed by a ribbon
cutting ceremony. Officiated by Thousand Oaks Councilmember, Bob Engler, Project ReWear’s founder, Kimberly Lau, and her partner, Linda Young, were presented with a certificate, the boutique doors opened, and the party started.
Project ReWear’s customers and supporters were excited to see the pre-loved children’s
clothing and accessories beautifully curated by Kimberly, that were brilliantly displayed on
pre-used school desks and chairs cleverly designed by Linda. For the Moms in attendance,
eco-friendly fashion designer, Deborah Lindquist, showcased her popular, recycled cashmere
pieces, as well as cool, preloved denim jackets embellished with vintage, rock t-shirts from her collaboration with Kim. There was also gorgeous vintage clothing, groovy heels and boots, and Linda’s handpicked selection of vintage jewelry and purses, giving Mommies a special opportunity to have their own moment of preloved style.
The grand opening was a family affair. Kim’s brilliant sons, Grady and Gavin, impressively
handled the busy sales desk, exhibiting their strong family DNA. Gavin, a talented artist and
Beatles’ fan, also displayed one of his paintings that had been inspired by the Sgt. Pepper’s
Lonely Hearts Club Band album cover. Linda’s husband and kids came by, and had fun trying on clothes choosing what they had to have. Meanwhile Part Time Sales Associate, Sandra Spina, and her daughter, Tianna, who is one of Project ReWear’s Ambassadors, helped with sales and customer services. Some of our other Ambassadors were there and excited to support, with Jonny taking photos with Kim after the ribbon cutting, and Kaydance giving love to AdoptMe’s rescue pups.
A truly successful event that was brimming with positive energy and community support, the
boutique was filled with excitement for Kim’s expertise and talent when handpicking high-quality, pre-loved garments while thrifting. Project ReWear’s mission to protect the planet by preventing unused clothing from going to the landfill was met with genuine interest, and
customers weighed their purchases to learn how many pounds of clothing they were personally stopping from being discarded. “It was a successful day for Project ReWear,” said Sandra Spina, adding, “Adults and children came and realized that it’s not just another clothing store. The message of why thrifting is important was clear, and they really appreciated the way the store was put together. Very boutiquey, organized, and thoughtfully displayed, the customers enjoyed their time at Project ReWear and shopped with ease.”
As the event came to a close, there was an inspiring and joyful vibe in the air. Beyond the huge success of the opening, including 165 pounds of clothing being saved from going to the landfill, Molly, a little Chihuahua from AdoptMe Rescue was adopted by one of the guests, giving all things preloved the opportunity of a new and happy life. As Kim sweetly expressed, “I am very happy that the opening went so well and that everyone enjoyed themselves, but knowing that we also helped a rescue pup find her forever home, really makes today truly successful.”
