Dear Friends & Customers,
Like everyone, the Project ReWear team was in shock, disbelief, and sadness during the sudden, frightening, and dangerous SoCal wildfires that simultaneously raged through Malibu, Pacific Palisades, and Altadena on January 7th this year. Beyond our immediate grief, watching as flames roared through these communities, destroying homes, businesses, schools, and community centers, taking lives and displacing thousands of others while first responders valiantly battled to save people and property, our next concern was for those who were left with absolutely nothing, but the shirts on their backs.
Moved by the suffering of the victims, we gathered as a team, impassioned to support them as they heal and rehabilitate. We all agreed that as a clothing brand, a t-shirt to raise funds was the most logical idea and immediately got to work choosing a design for the artwork that would reflect the vibrant and resilient spirit of LA. Three designs were created for everyone to choose from, with the team all agreeing on a surfer van set against the famous Malibu sunset, which was an image that embodied the city’s strength while standing as a symbol of freedom, exploration, and everything that makes LA’s culture so iconic. Within 30 minutes of our selection and as if fate had intervened, the photo of a “magic” retro bright blue VW camper van that had withstood the devastating Palisades fire started appearing in the media, as she stood in the midst of burned rubble miraculously untouched by the flames. The bus, owned by surfboard artist Megan Krystle Weinraub, went viral, quickly becoming a symbol of hope for Los Angeles. As the t-shirt design was finalized to reflect this blue VW van, the word “Magic” was added to the camper’s license plate as a tribute to this incredible story.
Featuring the community slogan, #LAStrong, 100% of the profits are being donated to the California Community Foundation - providing direct aid to fire victims, Pasadena Humane – caring for displaced, injured, or lost animals, and LAFD Foundation Emergency Wildfire Fund – honoring the firefighters.
Staying true to Project ReWear’s mission of promoting sustainable practices, we have personally sourced high-quality, pre-loved t-shirts, making each piece one of a kind. To expand the collection, we have also partnered with eco-conscious fashion designer Deborah Lindquist to repurpose denim jackets and hoodies. Our campaign isn’t about creating a few items, selling them for a couple of months, and then moving on to the next headline. To truly help our community get through this, it will take long-term support, and the design will stay the same, but the items we print it on will evolve and reflect the seasons. Every #LAStrong item is more than just a piece of clothing—it’s a statement of resilience, sustainability, and community. When you wear it, you’re supporting fire victims, reducing waste, and showing the world that LA’s strength is unshakable.
To expand the positive wave of love and support for our community, we will be running a social media campaign encouraging people to purchase a t-shirt and post it, sharing what they love about the city using the prompt: “I love LA because ...”
Please join us in buying a t-shirt to help those affected, post a photo of you in it on your Instagram telling everyone why you love LA, tag @ProjectReWearKids, and use the hashtags #LAStrong, #WeAreAllInThisTogether, #ShareTheMagic, #ProjectWeCare, and #WeLoveLA. Together, we’re showing the world that LA doesn’t just survive—it thrives.
Thank you for your support and for helping our community. #WeAreAllInThisTogether, and we are #LAStrong.

More About #ProjectWeCare
On Wednesday, February 12th, 2025, Project ReWear is launching its #LAStrong clothing collection as an ongoing campaign to raise funds for the SoCal wildfire victims. Selling a range of limited-edition, pre-loved clothing items, the artwork is inspired by the retro blue VW camper van, which was photographed standing defiantly unscathed in the charred remains of the Palisades fire, and quickly became a beacon of hope for LA. The word “Magic” appears on the license plate in the artwork, in tribute to this miraculous story.
Featuring the community slogan, #LAStrong, the first products being released are gently worn, high quality t-shirts for men, women, and children, as well as a collaboration with renowned, eco-conscious fashion designer, Deborah Lindquist, of upcycled denim jackets and hoodies. As each item has been carefully sourced from thrift stores, no two pieces will be the same, making each purchase one-of-a-kind.
Featuring a #WeAreAllInThisTogether slogan on the shirts serves as a reminder of the resilience and spirit of those affected, and the commitment felt by all to help their neighbors. Priced between $20 and $30, Project ReWear will underwrite all production costs and donate 100% of all profits from the sale of the #LA Strong t-shirts, equaling $15 for every shirt sold. Proceeds will benefit the Featuring the community slogan, #LAStrong, 100% of the profits are being donated to the California Community Foundation - providing direct aid to fire victims, Pasadena Humane – caring for displaced, injured, or lost animals, and LAFD Foundation Emergency Wildfire Fund – honoring the firefighters.
With a goal of continued support to help their community heal, rebuild, and rehabilitate, Project ReWear’s founder, Kimberly Lau, explained, “Our campaign isn’t about creating a few items, selling them for a couple of months, and then moving on to the next headline. To truly help our community get through this, it will take long-term support.” Business partner, Linda Young, added, “The design will stay the same, but the items we print it on will evolve and reflect the seasons. Every #LAStrong garment is more than just a piece of clothing - it’s a statement of resilience, sustainability, and community. When you wear it, you’re supporting fire victims, reducing waste, and showing the world that LA’s strength is unshakable.”
Creating a further impact, the Project ReWear #LAStrong clothing collection has the ability to save hundreds of pounds of clothing from local landfills and thousands of gallons of much-needed water with the sale of each high-quality, pre-loved garment, cementing Project ReWear’s mission of helping people and the planet we call home.
